Description of Classes
We offer a variety of classes at Diversity in Dance. If you need assistance determining which class may be right for your dancer, please reach out to us.

You can register by going directly to our Registration Portal or using the registration links on our live-scheduling calendar. You may register for select drop-in classes using our Book Online tab.

Creative Movement
Creative Movement is a 45-minute class designed for toddlers (ages 2-3) to expand their dance-related motor skills, develop their coordination, and help them learn the art of self-expression through simple dance movements, music, and colorful props.

Littles Combo
The 45-minute Littles Combo consists of ballet, beginner tumbling, and the option of jazz or tap for those littles who have moved beyond Creative Movement but are not quite ready for Beginner classes. Typically, Littles Combo will consist of ages 4-5.

Hip Hop
Hip hop is a fast paced, energetic dance style that infuses many styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. In this class, dancers will learn how to maintain strength and stamina while grooving.

Levels offered: Beginner, Intermediate/Advanced, Adult

Mat Pilates (18+)
Strengthen your core while calming your mind in this low-impact Mat Pilates class taught by Chloe. Focused, intentional movement supports posture, flexibility, and stress relief. All levels welcome. Offered multiple days and times each week.

Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of all dance classes. In this class, dancers learn about how to correctly execute fundamental body positions and movements in a way that makes the dance appear graceful and elegant. Ballet classes put an extreme emphasis on "turn out," outwardly rotating from the hips, in order for the dancer to gain complete range of movement with their legs.

Levels offered Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced/Adult
Pointe is available upon recommendation of the ballet instructor.

Contemporary
Contemporary is an emotionally expressive style of dance with an emphasis on flowing floor work. In this class, dancers learn how to incorporate breath and fluid movement while maintaining elements of ballet and jazz technique.

Levels offered: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced/Adult, and Beginning Adult

Jazz
Jazz is a very energetic and rhythmic style of dance that incorporates entertainment, putting on a performance. In this class dancers learn about isolating their movement in a clean and sharp
way while maintaining basic technique taught in ballet.

Levels offered: Beginner/Intermediate, Advanced, and Adult Beginners

Heels (16+)
This high-energy class borrows elements from jazz, Latin dance, burlesque, and hip-hop and focuses on graceful movements and poise, all while wearing dance heels.

Drill Team Prep
In addition to the private technique and choreography lessons DiD offers for high school drill team members, Diversity in Dance offers a stand-alone Drill Team Prep course for those interested in trying out for drill team or simply perfecting their skills. This class will help dancers with coordination, timing, technique, musicality, teamwork, and more.

Leaps, Turns, & Technique
Leaps, Turns, & Technique is a technique-based class where dancers hone the skills needed for the leaps, turns, and jumps needed for ballet and jazz, among other dance styles. This class also focuses on the strength, conditioning, and flexibility needed for all styles of dance.​

Acro for Dance
Acro is a combination of gymnastics movements and limbering (flexibility) with traditional dance technique. In this class dancers learn how to utilize balance, flexibility, strength, coordination, and body control to perform a variety of jumps, poses, rolls, and flips/tricks on the floor.

Levels offered: Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced

Musical Theatre
Musical Theatre is a jazz-based class focussed on Broadway-style dancing and musicality. This class emphasizes learning performance skills, such as stage presence and connecting with an audience.​

Improv/Surprise Class
Improvisational dance is expressing oneself artistically through unplanned movement. In this class, dancers learn and practice how to execute raw movement stemming from their own artistry. This class also teaches how to use this technique to create original choreography and provides tools that can be used to enhance their choreography.

From time to time, the Improv class is replaced with a surprise class that can be any form of dance from drill team to salsa to line dancing to musical theatre.
​
This class is recommended only for advanced dancers and adult dancers of all levels.

Tap
This ain't your granddaddy's tap class! DiD Tap is an energetic form of dance that focuses on rhythm and percussion, incorporating elements of jazz and hip-hop while using metal taps on the toes and heels of their shoes to modern songs. In this class, dancers will learn about combining sound with their movement.​
